Filter Studio Shoot with James

So usually when I have an idea about experimenting or doing something a little different, and my problem is a subject half the time. And as usual my brother wanted new press shots. So to kill two birds with one stone, I shot him with these new ideas in mind.

Now I’m not a big fan of high key lighting in most cases. I think it looks to plain, and I generally prefer a grey looking background to a white one. The tones are more complimenting in my eyes. The first few shots below are shot with one light from the left side above the subject point 45 degrees.

Now for what I actually wanted to experiment with, Colour Filters. Through the shoot I kept switching the different colour filters around, layering filters and just winging it. Shot with just two studio lights, with a reflector dish on each and taped the filters over the dish. My favourite combination was to use a purple filter on the right and red and blue half over lapping on the left. Due to the position of the lights, the background was split into the two colours and the face but opposite colours, which was interesting. Why spend time in post making colours when you can just as easily do it in camera.
